Just shy of 2 weeks and beginning to roll!

Today was day 9!
We are beginning to fall into a routine, and are working on our behavior during lessons.

The kids should have all of their supplies by now. Here is another look at the supply list, I assure you, these supplies are actually used by your child.
4th Grade Supply list for Mrs. Werner's Class

Topics of discussion that I could use your assistance with at home:

1. Focus- Some of the kids are struggling with the switch from Summer Break back so school. I am having to ask many of them to sit up while working or when I'm teaching. Mondays seem to be really tough. There is a lot of research about sleep and the fact that children need a minimum of 10 hours each night. This is as important as reading every night.

2. Manners at lunch- Teachers have been eating with the students each day at lunch. Please discuss with the kids that eating small bites and chewing is appropriate in mixed settings. Another issue at lunch is talking with full mouths, and leaving piles of food on the table when time to clean up. I have observed that part of the clean up challenge, is the kids spinning around at the lunch tables to talk to kids at other tables. This is not allowed as it increases the loudness in the Cafeteria. One thing we have done to cut down on this is that the entire 4th grade has recess together.  This is when the kids can play and interact with their old friends.

3. Heat and Health-  with the temperatures in the 90's it is even more important the each child has a water bottle or spill-proof cup in which to keep water. Some of the kids continuously ask to leave the room for water in the middle of my teaching. While staying hydrated is important, I am asking that this not be a continuous reason to leave the classroom.

4.  Vocabulary Words- We do not have classic SPELLING TESTs!  The words or phrases that they are working with at home and during Lit Centers are content words needed for success in one of the main course, Math, English, Health, Science, or Social Studies. The purpose of the vocabulary lists are to understand and use them correctly while working, not have memorized a set of words one week and forget them another.

Be on the lookout for dojo information to arrive at your phone.
